How It All Started

So I received a suggestion from Amanda for a blog describing how my hubby and I met.  So buckle up, hang on and prepared to be bored to tears.

We first met May 22, 1997 when I started my first job after school.  On a side note, I was really proud of myself for starting work a day before graduation.  Even though it was technical school I felt I had really accomplished something.  Anyway, I remember being introduced to him and the first thing he said was "Hi".  Normally that wouldn't be funny, but he said it all Casanova-like.  He would disagree with me on this, of course.

If it hadn't been for email he never would have asked me out.  That's how we communicated most of the time because we were both so shy.  We were friends for awhile before he invited me to spend New Years' Eve with him.  But since it was last minute we decided to have dinner at The Olive Garden.  Then we drove around looking for a place to get a drink.  But the parking lots were all full, so we decided to go and get chocolate milkshakes for our midnight toast.  (I was very relieved at this, because I was under 21 and was terrified they would card me and I would be embarrassed.  He is 8 years older than me after all.)  So we rang in 1998 with the McDonald's employees at the drive thru window.  A great first date, I might add.

So when was our next date, you ask?  Not until FIVE MONTHS LATER when he asked me out again.  I thought he wasn't interested, because every time I nonchalantly asked him what he was doing, he would say he was going to visit his grandmother or some other family member.  Really, what guy spends that much time with their family?  Well after I got to know him and his family, I realized he really was spending time with them.  Anyway this entire time I had been praying for God to send a good Christian man my way.  When I finally gave up and said "I give up, God.  It is in Your hands."  Bryan asked me to a Bible study the very next day.  Imagine that.  So it was May of 1998 when we really started dating and spending time together and going to Bible study together.  By August of 1998 we were engaged and exactly a year later on August 21, 1999 we were married!

And, as they say, the rest is history.  Thoughts, comments?

Oh I'll be happy to blog on another subject.  Just leave your request in the comments section!

Random Dozen from BonBon

1. Do you use the labels various charities send you as “free gifts?”
Yes, it's better than throwing them away. Right?

2. What is your favorite time of day (or night) for skywatching?
I love looking out of the passenger window, up at the stars when we are driving home late at night.

3. What is the most adventurous you've ever been with trying a new food? (Keep it G-rated please)
I tried sushi at a Chinese buffet. Not smart...I know.

4. Have you ever heard a rock sing? (Trust me, there's a reason for this one!)
Um, no? But I really want to know the answer to this one!

5. If you could learn a language you don't presently speak, what would it be?
I NEED to learn Spanish.

6. Al Capone's tombstone read, “My Jesus, Mercy.” If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?
Um. "What are you doing standing here? She's not here anymore!"

7. If you were a famous musician who was known by one name, like “Cher,” “Sting,” or “Jewel,” what would it be? It doesn’t have to be your first name, but it can be, if you’d like.
BonBon

8. Have you ever been inordinately “into” a television show?
Hello? Lost started last night!

9. When you sneeze, do you go big, or do you do that weird “heenh!” sound that makes people think you’re going to blow your brains out? Any other variation we should know about?
I can go either way. I have an amazing talent where I can sneeze and no one even knows I did.

10. Do you still read an actual newspaper that you hold in your hands, or do you get your news elsewhere?
Well usually the internet, or my hubby fills me in. He still reads the newspaper the old-fashioned way.

11. Are you a good speller?
Yes.

12. At what time each day do you start thinking about Lost lunch?
Before breakfast. Hey I'm a planner.

Your turn!

February Goals

How did you do on your goals for January? Let's just say that I'm still working on it. It is incredibly difficult to get to bed at a decent hour, for some reason. Maybe because I have a three-year old in the house.

Have you thought about a new goal for February? I had a whole list in mind I wanted to do, but I feel like the Lord is leading me in a specific direction. I've allowed myself to be distracted by other books, when my focus needs to be on the Bible. I've felt it, too. I can feel myself pulling away and it is completely my fault. So my goal for February is to not read any book that is not related to the Bible. For an entire month at least. Actually I'm going to start a few days early. I feel the Lord is telling me to get on this NOW.

What about you? Do you have any new goals for February?

Random Dozen: Patience is a Virtue

Once more, thanks to Lidna at 2nd Cup for hosting!

1. How good are you at delaying gratification?
Pretty good these days. It's really easy when you don't have any money! ;)

2. Maybe a marshmallow wouldn't be too difficult a temptation for you. What food (or anything else) would be most tempting?
Chocolate or anything with cheese on it is hard to pass up.

3. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being saintly) how patient are you?
Maybe a 4. 'Nuff said.

4. Have you ever waited for something in life only to be disappointed upon realization of the goal/object/etc.?
I've actually been pleasantly surprised with my life. Maybe because I have low expectations. Hahaha.

5. Are you a person who takes shortcuts?
Not really. Usually I have to end up starting all over and doing whatever it is the right way.

6. Which line is hardest to wait in?
ANY line where I can't see the beginning and what is going on up in front. This is a control thing, I know.

7. Did you wait to discover the gender of your unborn child until its birth?
NO! I wanted to plan, plan, plan.

8. Are you more patient with children or the elderly?
I'm more patient with my own child than with anyone else.

9. Did you ever sneak a peek at a present?
No. I love, love, love surprises!

10. What is the longest you've ever waited for anything?
Seven years to finally be able to have a child. Before you get the wrong idea, this was our choice.

11. Who has more patience, you or your significant other?
Depends on the situation. We balance each other out. If I'm impatient, he is usually the patient one, and vice versa.

12. Which of the following songs about waiting is your pick for the best?
I like the waiting song in the Fireproof movie. What is the name of that song???

Feel free to comment. I love comments!

Random Dozen

So I decided to join Linda at 2nd cup of coffee for the Random Dozen. So, enjoy!

1. So I was thinking about how Jon Bon Jovi never seems to age much. His hair is smaller nowadays, but he still manages to look like a boy somehow. I mean, look at him in this pic with a finger in his ear. Young! And then that made me think of the story of Dorian Gray. Question: If you physically lock in one age for yourself, which would you choose and why?
Speaking strictly physically, I would pick about 20. I worked out like crazy and was at my most physically fit and strongest. Although, mentally I would pick the present. I wasn't saved then, so I wouldn't want to go back to that point in my life.

2. What is the best dish that you cook or bake (your piece de resistance?)
Well I only recently really started to attempt cooking, so I'll have to get back to you on that one someday. Maybe my husband would be a better judge of this question.

3. When you feel blue, what is one strategy you use to help yourself back to normal?
I usually pray about how I'm feeling. Depression plays a big part in how I feel, and I usually notice the signs when it is coming on. So I pray about it. Also, talking to my man helps too.

4. When was the last time you danced in public?
Too long ago. I think it was a wedding. I seriously do not remember. How sad is that?

5. Do you consider yourself a realist or dreamer?
Typically I am a dreamer. But life is making me into a realist.

6. As a parent, what is one thing that you have done well?
As the mom of a 3 year old, I don't feel like there is much I do well these days. Time will tell if I have totally screwed up my child or not.

7. Which is your favorite character on the Andy Griffith show?
Andy Griffith of course.

8. On a scale of 1-10, how much do you know about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?
Maybe a 3. Shameful, I know.

9. What is your #1 driving pet peeve?
Slow, erratic drivers on cell phones.

10. Which color best represents your mood today? Care to elaborate?
Gray because that's what I'm wearing.

11. If your spouse were an animal, which would he/she be?
A monkey.

12. What activity takes up the bulk of your time on an average day?
I'm an SAHM. Need I say more?

So that's it! Comments, questions?

Just Because

Well I don't really have much to say, but thought I would check in. So this post is probably going to be totally boring. But aren't they all?

I had a bunch of photos to add, but my computer crashed. Weee! Tomorrow someone will be performing CPR on it so I can get my pics back, I hope. One would think I would learn to back up my files. On that subject, I need some recommendations on online backup sites. Anybody?

How are you doing on your goals? You may notice my post is after 9pm. I'm trying, really. I'm getting better and I'm usually in bed by 10pm. But is it possible for a mom to get to bed at any decent hour? That is the question of the month.

I hope to have some pics up soon! I've learned my lesson, I tell you!

New Year, New Blog

Howdy strangers! What has everyone been up to? I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas and wish everyone a Happy New Year. Since it is the new year, I thought I would try to keep up with my blog a little better.

So I'm curious to know...what are your New Year's resolutions? I've decided rather than try to start a whole new list of things I want to do, which by the way never works, I would try to develop one new healthy habit at a time. Since it roughly takes 21-28 days to create a new habit, I'm going to try to add one each month. I'll keep y'all posted on how it's going. My new habit for this month will be trying to get to bed by 9pm-10pm. Believe me, that will be an accomplishment since my normal bedtime hours have been 12-1am! I know! No wonder I'm exhausted all the time.

I know I haven't been around for a while, so I'm going to try to update at least every 1-2 weeks. AND I'm expecting everyone to keep me to it!

Happy New Year and Blessings to All!
